Happy belated Labor Day my fellow fashionably-challenged friends! You'll never believe what happened last weekend: I went thrift shopping! As cliche as it might be, I actually found some spectacular items (see pictures below)! Thrift shopping shouldn't be limited to Macklemore and hipsters; it should be enjoyed by the general cheap-fashion public!
For those of you who oftentimes use the excuse, "I can't afford to look fashionable, I'm broke," you're wrong! You can be fashionable on a budget! You just have to know where to look!
Step #1: Find a thrift store or Goodwill near you!
Recently, I discovered Plato's Closet. Now, it's not exactly a thrift store per say, but their clothing is cheap and you can not only buy clothes there, but (wait for it!!) you can sell your clothes as well! That's right, sell! Also, there are locations all over the United States (and parts of Canada)! Is there anything more convenient? I should think not!
P.S. I'd also recommend looking at Cleopatra's Treasures, the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and Savers.
Step #2: Look around!
Used clothing stores can yield some fantastic finds; you just have to look for them! It may take you longer to shop there than it would at your average store, but it's more rewarding financially in the end. Plus, if you are looking for something that no one else has, a thrift store is the way to go!
(I once found a Juicy Couture bag in mint condition at a Goodwill for $30! You're welcome!)
Step #3: Shop price tags, not the items.
As I began my search through Plato's Closet, I could only stare in awe at the treasures surrounding me. I grabbed as many things as my arms could carry and ran for the dressing room. However, a thought made me stop dead in my tracks: How much will this cost? I frantically began checking the price tags on the items and realized, to my dismay, that most of them, though not expensive, were not within my (very) limited price range. I then proceeded to shop in a different way: I looked at the price tag before I looked at the item. And it worked!
Good luck in your shopping ventures and may the fashion force be with you!

Like a good neighbor, Pinterest is there!
I don't think that anyone quite understands my "pindiction" (and yes, I did just make that up). I absolutely, positively LOVE Pinterest! It not only has endless recipes for deliciously delectable foods, but it also is my personal fashion advisor.
Yes, that's right, you can use Pinterest as your own personal stylist! No longer can you use the excuse, "I'm just not fashionable, I don't even know how to dress myself." You don't have to know how to dress yourself! It does it for you! The solution is a simple click away (God bless modern technology)!
Also, if you are confused on where you might find fantastic fashion tips and outfit ideas, follow me (blue182) or Jackie @ Lips, Hips & Fashion (her fashion board is AMAZING!).

6 Tips to Trick People Into Thinking You're Fashionable
Have you ever had that one person whom you know or know of that dresses amazingly all the time? I've always been jealous of those sorts of people because I am most definitely not one of them. However, there are a few things that you can do to create the illusion of style so that YOU can be that person.
Tip #1: Limit yourself to ONE "sweats/comfy" day a week!
Here's why: if your friends and compatriots constantly see you wearing "comfy" clothes, they will assume that that is what you normally wear (now, this is probably true, but they don't need to know that!) However, if they see you constantly wearing stylish clothes, they will assume that you, by extension, are a stylish person. However, you should designate one day a week to be your "comfy day." If you don't have a comfy day, you will be miserable and uncomfortable. By giving yourself one comfy day a week, you'll have something to look forward to during the rest of the week.
Tip #2: Utilize your stylish friends!!
I know that you have at least one stylish friend, so why not make use of them? After all, that's what friends are for (sort of)! Borrow their clothes, ask them what they think of such and such piece of clothing, ask them if they'll go seasonal shopping with you, if they're giving away clothes to the Salvation Army, ask if you can "drop it off" for them (you don't need all of it though, give some it to those in need!), the list goes on and on!
Tip #3: If you are completely void of stylish friends (which I highly doubt), utilize the next best thing: Pinterest!
Pinterest is amazing and if I didn't have any semblance of a life, I would pin things for hours at a time (oh wait, I already do that...)! It gives you all sorts of fashion ideas and useful tips about anything and everything! I love it! Also, I may or may not be slightly addicted to it...
Tip #4: Try to coordinate your colors!
Now, when I say "Coordinate your colors", I do not mean this:

Unless you are going to a rodeo like this girl, do not wear all of one color! Use your common sense in these sorts of situations.
Tip #5: Use scarves!
As I said in the previous article, scarves will dress up your outfit and make you look like you have everything together (even though you and I both know that that's not the case). For any more questions regarding scarves, read "The Art of the Scarf" below.
Tip #6: DRESS UP every once in a blue moon!
Believe me, I don't want to leave my bed most mornings, much less get dressed. But wearing your pajamas out should never be an option. If you want people to think that you are professional, try to at least dress professionally. This doesn't mean that you should wear pant suits and whatnot on a daily basis, but perhaps a skirt or even (God forbid!) a dress would have a similar effect.

The Art of the Scarf
Fashion has become a necessity in our society. It determines how we are viewed and affects the first impressions that we make on people. But there are some (a.k.a. me) , that are "fashionably-challenged" and have no sense of style whatsoever. To those who are like me, this blog is for you. It's a way to appear fashionable when you have no idea what you're doing.
That being said, the scarf is THE most important aspect in pretending to be fashionable. It dresses up any outfit and makes it look like you actually put some time and effort into your appearance. You could be wearing a white t-shirt that you got from a pack in Walmart and STILL look fashionable if you are wearing a scarf. Scarves are usually inexpensive, as long as you don't waste your limited cash supply on fancy "designer scarves" (which are usually ugly anyways). Also, if you want a complete outfit, add some cute, dangly earrings. They don't have to be fancy, they are just there to be accessories. I added a few pictures below to demonstrate. Good luck to you all my fashionably-challenged friends!
